Pain Drunk
Tue 11 to Sat 15 March at 8:30pm
Lucas, a free-spirited artist, and Colette, a pragmatic but restless Phd student and tutor, collide in a whirlwind romance. Their attraction is instantaneous, igniting a passionate relationship filled with creativity, laughter, and intense connection. Yet, as their lives intertwine, the very qualities that draw them together also drive them apart.
Over the course of two years, the stage transforms from their euphoric first encounters to the chaos of shared living. As Luca’s spontaneity and inability to communicate clashes with Colette's desire for stability and closed off nature, their differences unravel into fiery arguments, confrontations, and moments of tender vulnerability. Each scene explores the push and pull of their love—a dance between longing and frustration, desire and disappointment.
Despite their struggles, they remain inexplicably bound to each other, grappling with the realisation that while they are not meant to be, the pull of their connection is impossible to ignore. As they confront their fears and insecurities, they must decide whether to embrace the tumult or seek the solace of separation.
