A black comedy about motherhood and mental health
Based on true stories, Lisa Brickell and Siri Embla weave a tale spanning four generations, multiple characters, and various dubious and devilish alter egos. Their tongue in cheek rendering of deeply flawed situations is dark and horrendously funny.
They explore the real-life experience of women who have been admitted to psychiatric hospitals with mental distress after child birth. The stories are based on the performers' own experiences and historical healthcare records from 1885 to 2001.
‘This is the most wonderful show, deeply moving, hysterically funny with a twist that takes you to the darkest of places and returns you to the light.’ - Alex Bonham, What’s Good, Auckland
‘Mockingbird is a clever, sensitive exploration of mental health. Funny and moving, it sheds light on an issue that affects many people but remains taboo even in our modern society.’ - Sam Baran, Sambaranmedia, Sydney
