In Flagrante: Neo Burlesque
Mon 21 to Sat 26 May
Now back for a second short season, In Flagrante blindsided Melbourne audiences and critics last May with a brand of ‘neo’ burlesque never quite seen before.
Described by Australian Stage’s Lee Bemrose as “…the whole thing, all these little stories, it was all so good” In Flagrante takes burlesque in a unique new direction of its very own, fusing super slick contemporary dance influenced choreography with hyper sexualised deeply funny vignettes that mock patriarchy in fiendish and extremely original ways.
From lonely North Korean traffic girls, wet nurse fetishes and steam punk super heroines; In Flagrante’s heady score draws from Klaus Waldeck’s smoky triphop classic Ballroom Stories album to David Lynch’s otherworldly ‘Snake Eyes’ and Nick Cave's beautifully brooding ‘Water's Edge’.
In Flagrante's neo burlesque has changed thinking, assaulted sexual stereotypes and adjusted underwear everywhere it goes.
